Dec 1, 2008 - The question that comes to mind is, why bother with tons of AA batteries when you could get the same power, if not more, from a set of ten lantern batteries in series. They have high miliamp hour ratings and would probably provided much more current. Then your fan might produce decent windage!

Dec 1, 2008 - I love it.

Dec 1, 2008 - I have not found rechargeable lantern batteries yet. I have ordered a:Ansmann Energy 16 Battery Charger for AAA, AA, C, D and PP3 NiCd and NiMH Rechargeable BatteriesWhich should be at my house in a few days.

Dec 1, 2008 - "the newman machine works by voltage and not current"More specifically, the Newman machine is efficient in the sense that it takes a long time for the current to rise to its full value. The time is proportional to circuit inductance divided by circuit resistance. Higher voltage -> higher rpm -> less time This means the coil still changes energy even when an entire revolution is made. Most power goes to changes in the magnetic field energy (i.e. reactive power) and is not consumed... as heat.

Dec 1, 2008 - who? kmarinas or the newman machine?
uusedman Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - both. Kmarinas is the leading person for making a ideal commerical fan. Try to put more weight on your motor, but not to much, this will increase the momentum and it will decease the strain on the batteries.

Dec 1, 2008 - I think if you picked up some bearings at Academy and put a plastic fan blade on there you might be surprised at just how much more air you get out of that Newman replication. Thanks for posting your videos - I think I've watched every one of them. Awesome work!

Dec 1, 2008 - have you been sleeping with Newman??? hehe Good work man...keep seeking!

Dec 1, 2008 - Great idea. That's exactly what I did on 09-24-08. The problem is now that it spins so fast that my blades are now flattening against the wind, so I've got to fix that.

Dec 1, 2008 - This is good stuff, and you know what.................if it wasn't such a PITA to wrap that wire I would actually give this a go.
