BALCONYTV.COM 24/08/2008PRESENTED BY PAULINE FREEMANThe Rumours The Rumours are a Tippereay based alternative rock band, consisting of five friends all woven together by their passion for writing strong, meaningful rock and roll songs. The Rumours have managed to attract the attention of many people in the music industry, in Ireland, the UK and America. With one of these demos hand-picked by Jackie Hayden as 'Pick of the Fortnight' in Ireland's leading music magazine Hotpress, it provided the band with much deserved national exposure, while the championing of the band by influential radio presenter Alison Curtis has added much heavy-weight support. In July 2006, Matchbox Recordings in London, England, chose 'Run and Hide' to be featured as a leading track on their prestigious compilation album called 'The Big Indie Comeback'. This album saw The Rumours become part of a worldwide release showcase, which features the best new artists and bands from around the world. The highlight of 2006 arrived in September when the band took to the stage to rapturous crowds at the Electric Picnic Festival in Stradbally, Co.Laois Ireland. Sharing the stage with Polly Harvey, Graham Coxon and Josh Ritter was a privileged experience for this hard working band. Hard work and dedication paid off for The Rumours in November 2006 when they managed to secure a recording deal with legendary Irish independent record label, Reekus Records. On July 21st of 2007 The Rumours released their debut single 'Keep It Going' which peaked at No.2 in the Irish Download Chart and got into the Top 50 in the National Irish Chart which in return raised high awareness of the bands potential nationwide. After a mini tour of Ireland promoting 'Keep It Going', playing such venues as Cypress Avenue in Cork, Kennedys in Galway, The Sugar Club in Dublin, and including their sell out launch night at the impressive Source Arts Centre in hometown Thurles, The Rumours finished up wit an exhilirating set at the Electric Picnic Festival 2007. This time sharing the stage with stars such as Duke Special, The Beastie Boys and legend Johnny Marr's band Modest Mouse. The Rumours ended 2007 on a high note headlining well established music venue Whelans in Dublin and started off 2008 on a higher note wit an excellent performance at An Roisin Dubh in Galway combined with their 2007 Electric Picnic played out to 57 different countries on radio and a tip for great success in 2008 from well respected Hotpress music journalist Jackie Hayden. With the release of their well anticipated new E.P 'When The Sun Hits Your Eyes' due out this autumn which has been selected to be part of the downloadmusic.ie compilation album to be released nationwide .....Jackie just might be on to something.http://www.myspace.com/therumoursthurlesTune in again tomorrow!!!
