CHEN:Avant garde fashion prepares to go under the hammer at Christie's auction house in New York. What's new and different, well the materials range from metallic strips, hooks, beads, plastic, lurex and rubber. Here's more.STORY:Fancy a Paco Rabanne metal wedding dress, a Pierre Cardin bubble cape in red "wet look' plastic, or perhaps this dress made with acrylic strips in tangerine by Paco Rabanne? All the top designers of the 21st century, such as Emilio Pucci, YSL and Gianni Versace have some of their strangest works in the collection which dates from the 1950's.Simon Andrews is the head Design Specialist for Christie's Auction House in London.[Simon Andrews, Christie's Specialist]: "The thing we have to acknowledge is that it is a unique collection and the material we have is unobtainable these days. The collection was built up over 12 years so I would expect the strongest possible interest." This tailored architecturally minimalist collection belongs to Mark Haddawy and Katy Rodriguez, who globetrotted over the past two decades, to gather the garments.[Mark Haddawy, Collector]:"Its a unique collection in that there are a lot of different designers represented in the collection but there is a common thread that runs through the collection and that is that the clothing really pushes the envelope of fashion and errs on the side of of the avant garde." The "Resurrection" collection, which includes 1950s rebellious youth style, and the Art Deco and psychedelic fashions in both Britain and America, goes under the hammer in early October.
