Nov 19, 2008 - All things considered, I'd like to think I would have risked the career. Tough choices in this very sentimental movie.Warner Oland played the Jewish Cantor, Jolson's father. Oland was born in Sweden in 1879. He played Dr. Fu Manchu and, of course, Charlie Chan. Oland died in 1938 while still playing Chan and was replaced by Sidney Toler (Scottish ancestry). Following Toller's death in 1947, Roland Winters took over the part. Winters at one time announced Red Sox and Braves games in Boston.

Nov 19, 2008 - I have to hand it to Jolie, I don't think I would have risked my career to sing in church.
